So it all began on a hot Saturday. The day was pushing up into the mid nineties and the river below our house was looking better and better. I called my husband at work and told him that when he got home my son and I were going to float the river, just a short distance not the whole way. He arrived home and we headed out on our adventure. I, a person who loves to fish, decided to bring my pole and just a rapalla so I didn't have to carry a tackle box. We started out on our 2 man tube, which is actually a snow tube but served it's purpose today. I was fishing along the way and wasn't seeming to get any bites so we decided to just float to the island in the middle of the river. I started fishing on each side of the island and I caught a fish. My son grabbed the net and netted the fish. As soon as I looked at the fish I realized I was in trouble because I forgot to bring my pliers. Rapalla's are not meant to be removed without pliers. I had no choice, the fish had to be removed. I grabbed the fish with my left hand and proceeded to remove the hook. As soon as I put pressure on the fish it went balistic and the hook went deep into my right index finger. I was stuck, and that was and understatement. My son who was freaking out had to compose himself long enough to help me get the fish off the hook before it dug it in deeper. Luckily the fish came off easy and then was the trouble of just removing the lure from the swivel. After much trial and tribulation we got it removed and started completing our float trip. All I could think was "I don't want to walk all the way up to Grandma's house to call my husband with a lure stuck in my finger" I had tried to pull it out but is wouldn't budge. As we floated closer I realized my husband was standing at the take out and I was so relieved. He took me to the Urgent Care and had the lure finally removed from my finger. It was so deep it took the docter 10 minutes just to get it out. Thank goodness for numbing medicine. So now I'm on anitbiotics and had to get a tetnis shot. I love fishing!!
